It's way past time to drive a stake through the heart of NATO. In Fiscal Year 2007, it's going to cost us 600,000,000 dollars in "Defense Burden-sharing" as it's called. I'm sure that does not take into account pesky emergency operations that crop up, like Bosnia, where Uncle Sam has to fork over more dough. On Wednesday, the "leaders" of NATO met in Riga and pledged to come to one another's aid in emergencies in Afghanistan. That means, when NATO troops from other countries, poorly trained and under-equipped troops, get themselves into a jam, they'll be dialing 1-800-UNCLSAM on the double. Nice. Canadian General (they have those up there?) Ray Henault (sounds French to me) had this to say: "the move sent a strong message of unity, determination, and certainly solidarity." Really? To whom pray tell?
With this message of unity, France, Germany, Italy, and Spain (ALL NATO NATIONS) WILL NOT BE SENDING TROOPS to fight regularly alongside US/Brit/Can/Dutch troops in Afghanistan. Gee, thanks guys.
I can see keeping the Frogs out, after all, General Patton had this to say about the French Army: "I'd rather have a German Division in front of me than three French Divisions behind me." Enough said. The Italians have a pretty good surrender record as well and just the other day, a huge military rifle sale boasted Italian WW2 rifles on sale, NEVER USED AND ONLY THROWN DOWN ONCE!" Spain? Yeah, whatever. I think that the Germans are too busy passing laws forcing German men to sit when they pee than to fight terrorism. After all, a wet seat is a horrible thing to their female leaders!
NATO needs to be flushed as does the UN, and Washington's words of avoiding foreign entanglements need be chiseled in stone in the House! It's WAY PAST the time for the Euro-PEE-ons to take of themselves!
